SOUL Sisters Leadership Collective

As we wind down from our Autumnal celebrations, including Indigenous People’s Day, let us look around us for those we are thankful for. Our loved ones provide us with safe spaces to be ourselves, comfort from hurts, joy in celebration, and healing warmth. We include especially all of those who have made our S.O.U.L. Sisters Leadership Collective possible over these past years, and all that we’ve been able to accomplish together.
As Black and Brown people, we’re also looking back at our Disasporan and Latin American ancestors who came before us. The shared food and recipes we pull out for the holiday season contain a history of survival. Let us remember our rituals and invoke all those who came before us - thankful for their joy, sacrifice, and fortitude. We consider each post #IndiigenousPeoplesDay meal an opportunity to participate in a small ritual of thanks.

S.O.U.L. Sisters Leadership Collective has ceased S.O.U.L. Sisters Leadership Collective has ceased all outward facing operations and there will be no futher updates to our social media accounts. The past eight years have been an incredible journey and we are not only proud but also moved by what we've been able to create with all of you.

Please check out our website at soulsistersleadership.org for toolkits and resources as our final give back to movement at large as we dissolve.

We look forward to what the future holds for the youth sector of movement work and direct service.

#TransgenderDayofRemembrance and the Colorado Springs shooting remind us of the necessity of denouncing hateful politics and rhetoric against the LGBTQ+ community at all times.

Our culture is severely damaged and we must prioritize empathy and safety for folks on the margins.

The LGBTQ+ community is constantly at the whim of disinformation and misinformation. Hateful politicians craft dangerous narratives about us and encourage the general public to continue to do the same.

Ignorance is disgusting AF and we need to be vigilant about confronting it.

Don't just “send prayers,” ACT. Your prayers are not enough to keep people alive!

#RestInPower to all of our community’s lost ones. You deserved better.
Today and this weekend we will be attending gather Today and this weekend we will be attending gatherings for #TransDayofRemembrance. Typically celebrated as a solemn vigil space honoring loves lost, #TDOR is a time to come together and uplift trans lives. Originally started in Boston to memorialize Rita Hester, a Black transgender woman who was murdered a year earlier, each TDOR gives us a communal space to mourn trans lives lost to violence. We are reminded to give our trans community their roses while they're still here and make it so those taken from us too soon are not forgotten. We must invest in ways of rebuilding our communities without transphobia and racism, and create a system where safety is focused on those that need it the most, specifically the Black trans community. In a society that tells trans people not to exist, living is resistance. Living and loving is liberation!

Swipe through for some gatherings in Miami and New York that are in-person and digital. If you cannot join a vigil, consider making space this weekend to honor trans community members lost in your own way.
It is with tender hearts and gratefulness for our It is with tender hearts and gratefulness for our community supporters that we must announce the closing of S.O.U.L. Sisters Leadership Collective. Our 8-year history as an organization is the product of hard work, intentionality, and dedication given and reciprocated by staff, funders, external organizations, community partners, and the brilliant minds of our youth. By the end of this year, our dissolution will be complete, however, we will bring all of our lessons, knowledge, and wins with us into the projects we are soon to join within our communities and leading up to our shift.

Please check the link in our bio to learn more about this decision and the history of S.O.U.L. If you have memories of SSLC you’d like to share, please be in touch with us! We are creating a time capsule of our memories and resources on our website and social media.

Happy Halloween to all our comrades celebrating! F Happy Halloween to all our comrades celebrating! Fall is the time of feasts, bonfires, refreshing our altars, and preparing ourselves for Winter. With the veil between worlds so thin during this transition season, now is the perfect time to reflect on how far we’ve come, our ancestors who have gotten us here, the changes we’ve made to get where we are, and what is the most sustainable practice we can enter as we approach the new year and holiday family gatherings.
Side note! We’ve been watching a topical new Halloween movie #WendellandWild and thinking about how modern children’s stories mirror adult processing of old wounds, and growth into new more healed versions of ourselves. No spoilers but check it out!

We were grateful and honored to share space with o We were grateful and honored to share space with our young people this summer as we bore witness to their brilliance and creativity. While exploring the topic of mental health, our young people did deep introspective work to reconnect with themselves, their history, the earth, their peers & their community members to help create remedies of support during challenging times. It wasn’t always easy work and we are beyond proud of them for showing up as their whole self.

We also want to express gratitude to the team - Alexis, BK, Jah, Keesha, Luz & Shianne, who poured into our young people this summer.

Thank you all who supported us this summer. We are full from your love & affirmations <3
Today we celebrate Indigenous People’s Day, and Today we celebrate Indigenous People’s Day, and we shoutout all Indigenous peoples from Turtle Island (North America) across the horizon and beyond. On Turtle Island, we organize in the North (NYC) mainly on Lenape land, and in the South (Miami) on Miccosukee land. Many of the Black and Brown people we organize with and for are descended from Taíno peoples, who were the first to encounter colonizers. Taíno lands include many Caribbean islands including Puerto Rico, Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, and Cuba. We’re still here! While we celebrate today and acknowledge our ancestors known and unknown, we also look to the future. We thank all Indigenous Peoples who are the vanguard of land, air, and water protection. The more we trust and follow in the footsteps and teachings of Indigenous People continuing to do this work, the more we tap into a better, cleaner, more sustainable relationship with our precious world. Happy Indigenous People’s Day!
Depicted in our post is ATABEY, a Taíno goddess of moon, fresh water, and fertility. She represents Earth Spirit.

Product pitches!🛍 The big day is here! After t Product pitches!🛍

The big day is here! After two weeks of hard, but rewarding work💎🔨 they took the product based marketing lessons👩🏾‍🏫 with Juana of @jalicreatives combined with wealth justice lessons from @BK to come up with a winning strategy.

Our campers presented their awesome products to our distinguished “shark tank” judging panel @saysukii, @lichellemisa & @luisanazd🫂

Ultimately, group Elevate was crowned the winning team due to their tight presentation, eye-catching labels and attention to detail!🧘🏾‍♀️🧘🏿✨

But, everyone's a winner at this year’s design camp! We learned the value of social conscious marketing and creating with mindfulness🪷! Plus, we made so many friends along the way!🫱🏾‍🫲🏿

Congrats campers!🥳🙌🏿
