Recent Black Girls Day At The Capitol Highlights Minorities Economic Issues

The recent Black Girls Day at the Capitol was the first to highlight minority women’s economic issues in Florida. Several organizations want improvements on education and better access to health care. The Sisters Organizing for Understanding and Leadership Group and other minority groups want state representatives to focus on improvements in education. S.O.U.L. Sister member Tajarah Surin says public schools in southern Florida have a lack of resources.

New York City Youth Leaders Board is raising funds for a trip to Miami!! Black Girl Magic Show

In October, members of the NYC Youth Leaders Board and participants of the CAMBA Sisterhood Academy attended a performance of nicHi Douglas’s Black Girl Magic Show!, an absurdist dance theatre lecture on Black female identity. After an enjoyable and thought-provoking performance, the show’s cast and crew answered questions from the audience, and the S.O.U.L. Sisters youth got a photo with playwright/performer nicHi Douglas (sister of S.O.U.L. Sisters’ very own Wakumi Douglas!)
