Shanée Smith

NYC Teaching Artist

SHANÉE SMITH is a Brooklyn-based, West-Indian community healer, visual artist, and writer who has committed to exploring movement, plant-based medicine, and magic as a means of exploring Black/ Queer identities. Throughout her creative process and work as an arts-educator, she often asks ‘what can/must we do to heal’ and answers by calling in narratives of ancestors through figure drawing, film photography, and fake rap cyphers. Whether your craft encompasses storytelling, crafting concoctions, or twerking, SHANÉE strongly believes that in doing so, you are reclaiming space, glo’ing up, resisting, and healing.

SHANÉE is the co-founder of Deeply Rooted Healing Collective and rose|wood Cultivation- both collaboratives dedicated to healing justice and story-sharing as components individual and community-based restoration.
