STAS SCHMIEDT (they/them) is a South Florida based nonbinary BlaQ storyteller, organizer, and healer. They are also co-founder and imaginatrix at Spring Up, a social enterprise cultivating a culture of consent and liberty for all. Stas studied gender, race, and sexuality at Dartmouth College and is the co-author of “Millennial Sex Education”, a collection of short stories that is the basis of their “Cultivate Consent” curriculum. They have given two TEDx talks: “Cultivating a Culture of Consent” and “The Millennial Mindset Can Save the World,” are published in the anthology “We Believe You: Survivors of Campus Sexual Assault Speak Out,” appeared in the documentary “The Hunting Ground” and on stage with Lady Gaga at the 2016 Oscars. Stas leads consent, gender and sexuality education with youth, trains communities and organizations in transformative justice, organizes for prison abolition and community accountability with Dream Defenders and does the Lorde’s Werq organizing for southern queer, trans*, and black liberation with SONG.
